"Holly has seen my heart and touched my soul. I am simply in awe." - Designer

When Hilary Swank won the Oscar for Boys Don’t Cry, while she forgot to thank her husband, she did say, “I want to thank Holly Hein, who kept my head on straight.”

So, who the heck is Dr. Holly Hein?

She’s the go-to psychotherapist for young Hollywood and other celebrities when they need relationship counsel. Her clients include over a dozen A-list stars (no…don’t even think about asking…) whose relationships, and general mental health, are further challenged by the harsh glare of the media spotlight.

With nearly two-thirds of married men and married women admitting to affairs, Dr. Holly’s major premise is that the true meaning and motivation for sexual infidelity is not sex. In her influential first book, Sexual Detours: The Startling Truth Behind Love, Lust and Infidelity (St. Martin’s Press, 2000), she describes how an affair is always a “cover story” for something else going on inside the person doing it…a betrayal of the self that overtakes marriage vows and a chemistry of escape that eclipses the promise of sexual lightning. She also provides a fresh look at outmoded, unrealistic notions of romantic love.

Dr. Holly’s commentary has appeared in a broad range of media outlets including Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Us Weekly, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Oprah, Strictly Sex with Dr. Drew, FOX News, iVillage and is a regular guest on KPFK public radio in Los Angeles. She most recently made appearances on KNBC as an expert on the Tiger Woods infidelity scandal. She speaks both French and Spanish fluently, a result of her desire to communicate and educate the widest possible audience.

Her unmistakable voice commands attention and makes Dr. Holly an entertaining guest and a joy to interview. She is especially compelling on TV and radio where her energy and enthusiasm captivates anyone within earshot.

Her educational background includes graduating from the New York University School of Social Work and serving at North Shore Hospital in their Medical and Psychiatry Departments. While engaged in private practice in Manhattan, she then attended the Institute for the Study of Ego Psychology where she received a certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. Dr. Holly then moved her practice from New York to California and obtained a Ph.D. at the California Institute for Clinical Social Work at Berkeley. She simultaneously completed a two-year certificate program at the Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, and is a board certified EMDR therapist for trauma.

Dr. Holly then wrote Sexual Detours, establishing her as a leading expert in the field. Edition 2 is now being updated, including brand new chapters on the Neuroscience of Cheating, Gay Affairs, Intergenerational Relationships, Celebrity Infidelity and the Diseases of Addiction.

Sometimes controversial, often outspoken, and always insightful, Dr. Holly is now making herself available for media comment on psychological and behavioral issues focusing on Infidelity, Relationships, Sexuality and Addiction.

She would love to talk to you.
